The Adriatic Sea, 17 May 1999 — A flight deck crewman aboard the fast combat support ship USS Arctic (AOE 8) runs to a safe position after hooking a pallet to a Navy CH-46D Sea Knight cargo helicopter from the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) during an underway vertical replenishment in the Adriatic Sea. Kearsarge and its amphibious readiness group are in the Adriatic participating in air strikes in support of NATO's Operation Allied Force.
