Range 15, Fort Irwin A close in view of the M134 high rate machine gun. The red covering mounted on the front of the machine gun is called a 'bullet catcher'. It is used to catch any bullets should a 7.62mm round be accidentally discharge. The machine gun will fire if rotated manually. The ammunition is stored underneath the troop seat and is channeled to the machine gun via the flexible ammo chute.
