Hot-in-flight refueling of a SH-60B Seahawk helicopter.

USS Antietam, 22 March 2000 — Sailors and aircrew attached to Light Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 47 conduct hot-in-flight refueling of a SH-60B Seahawk helicopter from the deck of the USS Antietam (CG-54) while the ship operates at sea. Hot-in-flight refueling is necessary when landing to refuel on a smaller U.S. Navy vessel would be too dangerous for the ship, helicopter and aircrew. USS Antietam is a Ticonderoga class cruiser home ported in San Diego, California. The Seahawk is based at Naval Air Station North Island, California.
