Persian Gulf, 01 July 1988 — A plane director signals to the pilot of a Marine Utility/Attack Helicopter Squadron 257 (HMLA-257) AH-1 Sea Cobra gunship on the helicopter deck of the guided missile frigate USS Nicholas (FFG 47) during Earnest Will, a convoy mission in which reflagged Kuwaiti tankers are escorted through waters of the Gulf by U.S. naval ships.
