Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, USA — This is a “R” model Cobra test firing a Hellfire missile at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama
A sharp viewer with an eye for detail pointed out that the wire barrier inlet screens were removed. This modification was made to enable more airflow for the L-703 engine. Due to the over pressure of the missile and the extra horsepower of the L-703. Extensive modification was made to beef up the box beam in the transmission area and to the tailboom.
Only two “G” model Cobras were modified to “R” Models to be used for these test.
One is believed to be at the Redstone Arsenal Museum and the other was brought up to MOD S standards.
