The intermediate gearbox also know as the 42 degree gearbox is mounted to the tailboom at the base of the vertical fin. The purpose of the intermediate gearbox is to change the angle of drive 42 degrees with no speed ( RPM ) change. The assembly consists of a gear case, with a gear quill set into each end. The case is fitted with an oil filler cap, vent breather, oil level sight gauge and a drain plug with magnetic insert. Input and output quills have flexible couplings for attachment of drive shafts. A vented fairing with quick-release fasteners provides access.
